It's almost that time of year again! Hollywood red carpet and VIP events are happening all over town on this special night. Count down the new year while rocking some of these makeup trends that would be appropriate for any party or event!

1. The Barbie Doll Look
Feeling playful? Create a Barbie Doll look with a grown up twist! Perfect for a black or silver dress with rhinestone accessories. Use a white eyeshadow all over the lid as the base and pat glittery eyeshadow on top. Select a taupe-y brown and apply this to the outer corners of the eyes and sweep it into the crease. Make sure to blend well. Line the upper lash line with black liquid or gel eyeliner and wing it out for a sexy cat eye effect. If you're feeling a little daring, add more drama to the eyes by applying heavy false lashes with sparkly rhinestones attached to them. Top off the look with your favorite pink blush and lipstick.

2. The Eye-Catcher
Want your eyes to be the center of attention? Creating a vampy cat eye look with nude lips and cheeks for a sexy Maxim Magazine look. Perfect for a red hot, white, or nude colored dress. To create that sharp angled edge, take a piece of tape and line it parallel with your bottom lash line. Select a grey or silver eyeshadow and apply it over the eye lids. Take a slightly shimmering or matte black color and apply it to the outer corners of the eyes. Slightly blend the colors together. Next, take a frosty white eyeshadow and apply it to the inner corners of the eyes to highlight and bring light into them. The key to creating the perfect smokey eye is all about blending. BLEND BLEND BLEND! Select a nude colored eyeshadow as your base. Take your favorite brown or black eyeshadow and apply it to the outer corners of the eyes and blend into the crease. Highlight the brow bone with a light vanilla colored eyeshadow and highlight the inner corners of the eyes with a shimmering white or champagne color. For kissable lips, make sure to gently exfoliate and put on a moisturizing lip balm. Select your favorite red lipstick and apply it with a lip brush for a crisp clean finish. Top off the cheeks with an apricot colored blush.

I will be rocking the Barbie Doll look with heavy rhinestone studded lashes and extra rhinestones glued to the outer corner of my eyelids! yeay, super fun! :)

As a makeup artist, it is essential to clean your makeup brushes. Start making it part of your routine to wash and clean your brushes - it will help prevent breakout by not allowing bacteria and germs to accumulate.

Never share your brushes esp. those for your eyes. If you're planning on applying makeup that day, make sure to plan wisely or else you'll get undesired results with those damp brushes.

Concealer can be used with your fingertips or a concealer brush. I like using a brush best and blending it in softly.

A little goes a long way. Always apply the concealer to the darkest area under your eye and blend upwards. Sometimes I use a disposable sponge to gently blot away any excess. It can also be used on redness and sun damaged areas. I use concealer lightly after my foundation is set in place but it’s totally up to you.

So You Want To Become A Professional Makeup Artist?

Well I understand you! J You have probably played around with makeup your entire life, watching your mother and/or sisters and you have a real passion for it. Yes, that was me so many years ago. Well, my first recommendation that I always give to people like yourself is that you really should go to a state board - official - beauty school. Get your license. Beauty school teaches you the basic fundamentals, use of tools and instruments and most importantly, the safety and sanitation requirements mandated by state law.In this day and age, people are very quick to sue you for something. The last thing you want is someone to sue you because they saw you drop a tweezer on the ground and forget to clean it before putting it back on your table. Another example: using old eyelash adhesive which smelled really foul and should have been thrown away. Washing your hands in between each client is a must do. These are the kinds of things – and so much more – that you will learn in this type of institution.

Once you have learned the basics then try to attend one of the more glamorous makeup school or seminars. Practice all the time on your friends and volunteer to do makeup whenever you can to hone your craft. Remember makeup artistry is like being a regular artist and you need to practice to get really good at it. I recommend buying some of the popular books on the market today – published by some of your favorite celebrity artists.

You will need a tool box of course and this consists of many things. Expect to spend a lot of money initially as it’s quite shocking how much this adds up – but worth every penny. Get a good sturdy case and possibly with wheels. I’ve gotten to the point where my load is so big that I’m actually working out of a regular sized black suitcase – but you can buy your own personal preference of course. There are many good lists available on the internet for all the basic tools to get started. Of course, a good brush set with minimum of about 10-12 brushes. All of your disposable items: sponges, mascara wands, tissue etc… Then of course, you will need all of your categories (foundations, blushes, lipsticks etc) and shades in each one. Whew… the list seems endless doesn’t it? But I recommend starting outwith the basics. But one important thing I learned to do and became REALLY good at fast was custom color blending. With a limited amount of product I was able to custom blend and create any color I wanted. I actually have an artist “color wheel” in my makeup bag – its priceless. I refer to it still o

nce and awhile. A great skill to have – custom blending - especially when you accidently left your favorite royal blue shade sitting at home on the counter! J

Remember the three Fs: fill, fix, and feather, says celeb makeup artist Brett Freedman. First, pick a pencil that matches your brow color. The 4 Best Hair Looks from Paris Fashion Week Fall 2011

Whether up, down, to the side or back in a pony, the best hairstyles in Paris had an organic quality, thanks to natural-looking texture and a slightly haphazard feel. In true Parisian fashion, though, no matter how imperfect the hair, it still managed to look incredibly chic. These are our favorite styles:

1. Rumpled waves at Chloé;.
The Chloé girl had a vibe that said, "I just rolled out of bed looking this good" and the hair certainly helped. The long, middle-parted waves were a bit rumpled, but also shiny with lots of volume at the ends. Hairstylist Luigi Murenu created the texture by applying John Frieda Luxurious Volume Mousse from roots to tips, then blow-drying to give the hair a little bend.

Using a large-barrel curling iron, he curled just the middle of one-inch sections. Both the top and very bottom were left straight and smooth, giving the hair a worn-in (but not grungy) feeling.

2. Gold-studded ponytails at Dries Van Noten.
Hairstylist Paul Hanlon literally put a ring on it for this look, adding a gold accent around the base of the easy, messy ponytails. "During the fitting, I picked up these beautiful gold rings from Dries, and I put them on the hair, and he liked it," Hanlon said, adding, "the designer wanted it to look simple and effortless, and not feel like the hair had been touched by a hairdresser." To do this, Hanlon blew the hair dry, then massaged Bumble and Bumble Styling Lotion into the models' scalps for a full five minutes to give the hair an airiness. He created an imperfect center part and finger-combed the hair into a ponytail, roughing up the roots with a little dry shampoo. The tail was then tightly twisted to allow the antique-gold rings to be slipped on from the bottom up.

3. Side knots at Chanel.This chignon was way cooler than your average ballerina bun. "It has a boyish shape, with a low side part that is swept around into a side knot," said hairstylist Sam McKnight. He left the front layers hanging out, and kept the knot loose, not frozen in place—it bounced and moved as the models walked down the runway. Some of the models had decorative clips pinned onto or just above the knot.

4. Simple headbands at Valentino.
The black ribbon placed over the low ponytail was a definite hit. "It's a look, but without being heavy-handed," said hairstylist Guido. "It's easy, but it has a slight personality and glamour to it." Guido prepped the hair with Redken Velvet Gelatine 07, then blew it out with a round brush to add a bit of curl at the ends. He center-parted the hair, teased the crown for volume, and pulled out two side pieces in front of the ears. While I've been a fan of lacy, patterned tights for years, their metallic sisters have never made it into my wardrobe. Whatd'ya think, Should we give shimmery stockings another chance?

Giuliana Rancic rocked them over the weekend, which got me thinking about their wearability:

In black, they're subtle and only really noticeable up close: Though it's still a bit much with animal print and a lace top, no? Still, I do like the way Giuliana kept it mostly monochrome (despite the different patterns), like Gwyneth Paltrow did when she tried the style:

Between both the ladies, those seemed to be the two rules: keeping the outfit in the same color family, and sporting shoes the same color as the tights (to elongate the legs— which are definitely front and center as a focal point!) Beyond that, though, it was definitely a bit "anything goes"— which is maybe what you're supposed to do when trying such a fun and festive look..

Oscars: Mila Kunis’ dramatic eyes

Mila Kunis’ lingerie–esque dress was lovely on her, though it could have left a little more to the imagination. Her sultry makeup, on the other hand, was spot-on in creating a dramatic contrast to the lilac lace that robed, um, most of her.

To achieve her sultry look, makeup artist Tracey Levy used Lancome makeup, starting with Teint Miracle lit from within foundation and Blush Subtil in Sheer Amourose. On her eyes was a combination of Coral Crush and Impress eye shadow as well as a heavy dose of Le Crayon Kohl eyeliner in black and Hypnose Waterproof custom volume mascara in black.

To carry on the feminine look, her lips were given a soft pink shine using Color Fever Gloss in blazing pink and La Laque Fever Lipshine in lucent nude.

Wow –- even her cosmetics sound sexy.

I'm about to run off and do another beauty event today in participation with a great cause supporting "cruelty free cosmetics". I'm always SO excited and happy to do big beauty events!!! It never ceases to amaze me over how excited I get leading up to it. I've seriously loved makeup ALL my life and have been wearing it since I was 8 years old (yes! my mother totally let me play around with it as a child) and also putting it on all my friends forever - now they beg me for it! Ha! I'm sure there are a million other glamour girls just like me out there who have been using and applying makeup all their life. On occassion I am even asked to teach professional makeup classes or a class on color cosmetics (all the in's and out's of creating a color cosmetics line) and I get SUCH a thrill from teaching too. Well....I've seen my share of different looking women over the years and spent a lot of time doing professional makeup. What have I learned?.......Well mostly I see a huge transformation happen on women when they get their makeup done. They become confident, strong and enamored with themselves. Sometimes they are in awe and won't put the mirror down.....I love that!!! But mostly they feel sexy! I do makeup at photoshoots, special events and weddings....and all of my ladies feel SEXY afterwards! ;-) So makeup to me makes a woman feel desirable and beautiful. Is there anything wrong with this? HECK NO! This is what it's all about ladies.....being the BEST you can be! I am a firm believer in this. Anyone who knows me - knows I love looking my best at all times (even at the gym...LOL). There is a certain pride in doing this....taking pride in your appearance! :D

Wow - I just had the amazing experience of flying off to Minneapolis, Minnesota to work behind the scenes - doing makeup and more - for SHOP NBC. I had the best time working on celebrity host Dayna Devon and some other delightful ladies for a whirlwind assignment - 25 hours long. I say 25 hours long with no sleep in between! LOL Its always crazy behind the scenes of a television studio and with LIVE TV - but a great time had by all!!! Its so important for the people in front of the camera to look glamorous and gorgeous with HD TV. So I put my best makeup skills to use and applied the best looking customized makeup Ive ever done. Shown here you will see some of the woman (including Dayna) that I got to work on and also all the poeple that helped make the show a success! My makeup application technique is so long lasting and flawless that once its on my job becomes so much easier. I have special tricks and techniques to really make it last - even though the hottest of studio lights - and oily skin (the devil hahahha). I would love to share more makeup tips with you in more detail. Drop me a line and tell me what you need help with the most. I'd love to walk you through some detailed step by step techniques. This way every girl can become sexy and glamourus even at home! As you know... the right technique and the basic essentials product wise will give you an amazing transformation!
